About
Austyn Estey-Ang is an experienced and well known San Diego musician and educator. He has a rich and dynamic performance career starting in Chicago and flourishing in San Diego. From performing with the San Diego Symphony to winning San Diego Music Awards, Austyn’s passion for music can be felt both on and off the stage.

Currently
Austyn Estey-Ang is a well-known musician in the San Diego area. He was on the San Diego Symphony’s sub list for oboe, but has since moved on to focus performing primarily on saxophone. He is a member of 14 bands through out San Diego and performs regularly at notable venues such as Music Box, Belly Up, Winstons, House of Blues, The Casbah, and opening for legends such as Barington Levy and The Original Wailers. He also performs in many festivals around the area and across the country such as Mission Bay Fest, Cali Roots Fest, Wonderfront Festival, Lighting in a Bottle, Rise and Vibes in Colorado, Mana Fest in Hawaii, and many more.
He brings this passion and energy from the stage into his lessons and helps any aspiring musician rock out to their full potential!
Education
Austyn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Oboe Performance and a Master’s degree in Orchestral Studies both from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. He studied under the tutelage of Peggy Michel, Lora Schaefer, Scott Hostetler, and William Welter. He was an Associate Member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra and regularly performed with such institutes as the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and University Orchestras such as Northeastern Illinois University.
Austyn has a passion for orchestral , chamber, solo, and all genres of music. He loves to share this passion so that anyone can learn to love and enjoy music as much, if not more, than him. One of the most rewarding experiences in his life was as a mentor in the Chicago Orchestral Academy’s Protégé Philharmonic where he trained high school students on intonation, blending, section listening, and overall orchestral etiquette. He now continues his teaching throughout the San Diego region giving piano, oboe, clarinet and other various music classes to students of all ages and experience.

Driven by a profound passion for musical exploration, Austyn engages in crafting original compositions that experiment with unconventional combinations of sound, genre, and instrumentation. His dedication to providing a unique and enjoyable experience for both himself and his audience is evident in his creative endeavors. Early Years
Austyn began his musical journey at age nine when he first picked up a Clarinet. A year later he began competing in competitions, and two years later began piano lessons. Throughout his middle school and high school career, he competed in many competitions on Piano, Clarinet, Flute, and Oboe. He also performed on tenor saxophone with the local community college Jazz band. It was not until age fifteen that he began oboe lessons. Just after three months of lessons, he achieved a Command Performance, the highest level, in a solo competition.
Along with competitions, he achieved First Clarinet and Principal Oboe in the Southern California High School Honor Bands. He became Principal Oboe of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra after two years of lessons, where he shared a stage with the legendary Steve Miller and his band.
Hobbies
Austyn loves to live an athletic lifestyle, when he is not immersed in music you can find him surfing all over San Diego or track cycling racing at the San Diego Velodrome. He is passionate about nature and art and loves to combine the two with his Bonsai collection and planted aquarium. He paints large acrylic canvases in his free time and loves to camp, hike, and explore new places throughout the country and across the globe!
